The 2015 Pacific hurricane season is an event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation. It officially began on May 15 in the eastern Pacific—defined as the region east of 140°W—and began on June 1 in the central Pacific, defined as the region west of 140°W to the International Date Line; both will end on November 30. So far, the season has produced thirty tropical depressions, twenty-six of which further intensified to become tropical storms, sixteen of them hurricanes and eleven major hurricanes. On October 23, Hurricane Patricia became the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere, with a minimum atmospheric pressure of 879 millibars and maximum sustained winds of 200 mph (325 km/h).
